Shyanne is an incredible young lady, full of ambition, personality & life. I first met her when she asked to shadow me for her senior project at East Wilkes High School. She came into the studio several times, always being helpful asking what she could do to help me. She's the type of person who just KNOWS when she's needed, and steps up without being asked to. There were several times when she'd see me struggling with a backdrop, or raising my backdrop stand, or I'd have a 2 year old not wanting to look my way, and she'd IMMEDIATELY hop right in, doing what was needed. That's pretty awesome for someone who had never been trained in photography, worked with me at all, or had even been in my studio very much.
After her senior project (which she made an A+ on may I add), we had asked her to assist in a wedding with us. Kristin & I were both booked for the day and Kristin really needed another set of hands because she was doing photo + video at a wedding, needing at least 3 people total for the job. I knew we could rely on her to help, and was excited since she had that intuition about her that I loved so much. She did fabulous, without much direction at all. I was at ease knowing Kristin had such great help that day!
Shyanne had asked me to take Christmas photos of her and her brother back at Christmas at the old train depot/tracks in North Wilkesboro for their parents as their Christmas gift. That session was full of laughter, bloopers and a ton of awesome photos. I know their parents absolutely loved this special gift those two got for them!
Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago, Shyanne had messaged me wanting to do a session with her and her boyfriend, Gray. She requested the lake, so we decided to head up to Smithey's Creek Park at W. Kerr Scott Dam for our session. I used to shoot there a lot, and hadn't shot there lately so I was pretty excited. It looked like it was going to rain all day, which made me a little nervous. I've learned my lesson on rescheduling on the possibility of rain, so we kept the session and went for it. Our session was scheduled for 2:00 p.m., which was something else that made me a little nervous. I was already booked for the remainder of the day, and they wanted their photos soon, so I took the session on. I knew at Smithey's Creek there was wooded areas, as well as some other shade, so I figured at the very least I'd get to use those areas. It turned out at 2:00, it was completely overcast. In case you didn't know, overcast weather is AMAZING for photo sessions. No one squints. It's (usually) not too hot. You get amazing photos. This I was excited for.
I arrive, we exchange greetings, fill out the paperwork, and dive right in to shooting. We start in the wooded area since it was closest to where we parked.
After the wooded area, we headed over to the grassy section of the park. From here you can see the lake in the background, which makes the perfect backdrop for a session!
When we finished up in the grassy area, we decided to head down to the docks for a few shots. This is personally my favorite spot to shoot while at this location. The movement of the water, the smell of the lake... ahh.. summer!
It started to sprinkle rain on us at this point, so we decided to quickly go over to the park portion of the area. We had to get some fun shots in, of course.
Shyanne and Gray loved their photos. I'm so glad the rain held out long enough for us to capture the love these two have for each other after dating for 5 years.
